Ages 3-6

The Montessori Early Childhood classroom lays the foundation for a young child’s love of learning and a fulfilling future. The Montessori approach to early childhood education begins that process in a joyful, secure, and loving environment in which a young child will thrive.

The Early Childhood level, for children ages 3 – 6, encourages children to explore and discover, to collaborate with classmates, and to take ownership of their education. The Montessori Method encourages self-directed learning that promotes self-confidence, independent thought and action, and critical thinking, while fostering social-emotional and intellectual growth.

What sets Montessori apart in the Lower Elementary years—ages 6 – 9, is the individually paced curriculum that challenges children academically and safeguards their well-being and sense of self.

As at all Montessori levels, the Elementary program is based on the belief that children learn best through movement and work with their hands, and provides cognitive, social, and emotional support to help them reach their full potential.

This includes addressing their needs as they enter a new period of development characterized by, a transition from concrete to abstract thinking, growing interest in socialization and thinking and memory that is enhanced by creativity and imagination

UPPER ELEMENTARY

Ages 9-12

Children in Upper Elementary cross the bridge between learning by hands-on experiences and the abstract understanding of concepts. With a strong foundation in basic skills and a broad cultural overview, Upper Elementary students inquire more deeply into academic studies.

Self-expression, particularly among peers, becomes a priority. Upper Elementary children enjoy expressing personal opinions and perspectives and discussing those of their peer group.

They engage in more complicated work integrating a variety of skills, and as their abilities expand, so does their learning environment, as students participate in overnight outings, field trips, and cultural exhibitions.
